I have a new millermatic 255 which we use c10 gas on for welding mild steel. My question is can we switch over our older millermatic 252’s to c10 gas to get less spatter and still have good weld penetration, we’re currently using 75/25 gas and welding 1/4”-3/8” mild steel 90% of the time while getting quite a bit of spatter.
The new 255 welds very nice on short circuit mode using c10 gas and it gives me very little spatter, but I read that Miller did some programing so this machine could weld all the time on c10 gas
Thanks for the help.

If you have everything to do the swap and hook up the C10 then why not just try it?
Can't see gas hurting the machine or whip, just might make bad welds or different welds then the other machine is all.
Or it'll be the same and you'll know you can switch if you wanted.

it will run fine. just needs some tweaking from your normal settings.
the "programming" on the other welder is for the auto set/synergic function. but then you can also manually set it anyway.
as a comparison, tri mix is the normal gas here but all the door charts are c25. so your always tweaking it a bit.

tweak it until it breaks

You can short circuit just fine with 90/10. I LOVED the 93/7 mix I used one time when I was welding anything under 1/8". You'll lose a little bit of heat compared to 75/25 but it'll weld with a lot less spatter otherwise in my experience.
I believe the OP was asking about doing short circuit MIG with 90/10 not spray.
