What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

Added the seat and roll bar yesterday. Still working on the steering wheel and headlights and a few little details but it's coming together better than I'd hoped.
Cheers

Cheers.

Damn, Eldon,

Since you can't feel it until it's too late, perhaps you should research a local tannery, and buy a complete cowhide... Tanned, but not processed, so it's seriously thick.
Fashion it into a chest-down apron to protect the stuff you can't feel burning.

You need some situation-specific PPE, for sure. I hope our other members who are forced to weld from a chair are paying attention.

I pray all is well, and you recover quickly.

Suggestion: LEATHER In Az there should be plenty, find a harness shop/saddle maker, custom fit molded to your needs.
Probably be happy to help a fellow craftsman. Trade him/her some welding art work. Horse people always like welded horse shoes etc

Eldon,
After seeing the burn that you showed us in an early post that you didn't feel, I'd say you need to put an extended effort into finding something to keep you safe. Burns in the wrong place while being confined to your chair could be catastrophic.

You could check out the Carbon-X blankets from Torch Wear also. They're expensive, but so are trips to the ER, plus it only hurts the pocket book. They can make them in any size you want. I've seen a video of people (Jay Leno for one)holding a torch on a sleeve made of this fabric with their arm in it.

I have the Carbon-X gloves (Mechanix Wear 10x) and they work good and the folks around the steel industry are starting to see the merits of this stuff.

I wish there was a way that we could take up a collection for this like they do on FB.

That Rat Rod would be a heck of a attention getter, take it with when you find a saddle shop. Custom rigs are their business.

The copper parts are soldered on. With the exception of the tie rod ends and springs which are brazed, everything else is tig welded.
Cheers.

Healing well thanks. I just returned from the wound clinic and the overall size of my burn has gone from 6 X 5-1/2 cm to 4 X 4-1/2. No sign of infection so in a couple more weeks it'll just be another in a long line of scars.
Cheers.
