Welding Tips and Tricks

Hey everyone i was wondering if anyone had some plans for a really cool looking front bumper for my 1999 GMC sierra i was thinking something like whats in the pics any feedback would be nice

Now that is nice.....I am looking for something similar for the front of my F250....

The "bars" are BOLTED to the bumper. Note the shadow line.

What a bunch of junk.

A real welder would be ashamed.

I did see that, I just assumed it was for packing and freight purposes.

I did a google and came up with this, most is for Jeep but could be modified.

Nice, I need something a bit more substantial though to stop the hoppers from coming through the grill.
I'm going to work out something for my truck then Ill get it all laser cut, weld it, and then get it chrome plated, I like chrome.....

Perhaps, weld some expanded steel mesh across the front tubes.

Heck, I thought you had just painted it, after a weekend in the shop.

What is the trick? Why the special need for plans? Sketch, measure, sketch again, measure ... order stuff.

The top half is good & I can sorta see the need for the lower part given the wildlife - but it really hurts the approach angle - if you drive alot of highway & have had a close encounter of the furry kind then OK - if your serious about keeping the off road ability of the truck I'd stick with the older ARB design - weirdly I was going to post a picture of one but I can't find a single picture of my old truck that had one on - maybe you can find one as they come from down under - their stuff I really rate ( especially the airlocker - despite the original air compressor & solonoid issues ) shame the shipping cost is so high to the UK - my current Toyota has an alloy copy of the ARB on - I braced it a bit better from behind & it's stood up fairly well over time - not sure I'd trust the hanging it from a crane stunt !

hey mick- now that's a little more like it although it looks a little industrial with all the square corners. maybe some heavy grating in the open spaces and a modified "cow catcher" device at the bottom? there's some food for thought. if i wasn't working so much ot i would design and build one for my toyota sienna mini van. lol

At least that on is a little functional and putting it on a landcruiser would at least be practical, if it were to take a hit, fools over here put even bigger ones on street type utilities that would desintergrate if it hit any thing bigger than a dog. B&S utes the call em.

Noddy i think she for dirt road use only with roos and stuff, as you said, no self respecting 4WDer would use it.

Around here in redneck land, you better not leave things around our welding shop without proper bumpers if it has wheels on it.



It all starts with the frame mounts and accomodations for a winch in most instances and evolves from there.

A bit "off topic " - but that was a real funny film - I loved it - shame they tried making a second one - just did'nt work - bit like " Bill & Ted " !
