Welding Tips and Tricks

ok Guys i have been pondering making a fold away/collapsible spit for car body shells. its a fairly simple thing to make but steel isn't cheap in these parts.

now i had a few idea's something similar to an engine stand idea with heavy duty castors on all 4 corners, or a '' T '' configuration with hight slots. not sure which will be easiest but it will be mild steel box section and round tube, so i can weld this stuff pretty easily.

its something that has been knocking around my head for a long time i think its near time i put it to steel

I've got a project now I'd LOVE to do that for, but it weighs 19 tons, so is a challenge. I'm resigned to a lot of overhead work...

damn Steve thats 17 tons heavier than what i want this for!

i will go through many plans before i go all out and buy steel. another i just come up with is a fully adjustable one...need 14mm threaded rod with M14 nuts.

i will certainly post images on the way

Right across the street from my shop is a metal scrap yard. They always have sorted piles of mill ends etc for pennies on the dollar. I walk through occasionally just to see what they have and grab what I can use for jigs and fixtures. Much of what they sort is as good as you might buy from a distributor. The upside being you don't have to buy a whole length.

if these worked i simply right clicked on the album name and copied link location.

I think the privacy settings for those pics/albums must be set to "public" for anyone not on your friends list to view them.

i do however like the idea of the cement mixer crank setup that isn't a bad idea at all.

I snuck that post in at about 515 this morn, right after the one that didnt work. It does look a bit of a contraption but i think its a case of build what you have. it kind of looks like an old crane or winch. Dunno really.

i do however like the idea of the cement mixer crank setup that isn't a bad idea at all.

The drive end looks almost like an old manual sluice-gate operator or a spillway gate operator from a small lock or dam. Includes the position lock, apparently. That's a cool idea!

The driven end looks like a spindle and hub (four-bolt pattern) from the back of a compact front-drive car. Again, good use of material at hand.

nice colour charcoal, especially with a blue holographic flake or a mix with gold silver and bronze flake......it would give a granite effect
