Welding Tips and Tricks

I finally finished our new fire ring. It’s 14 ga steel, 17” tall, 38” OD and 23” ID. It’s elevated 2.5” off the pad for venthilation. There is some internal bracing and feet. The finish is premature rusting with vinegar, salt and hydrogen peroxide. I sealed it with Flood Penetrol. I welded with MIG welding with .025 wire. I did cheat a bit and pay to have the steel shop plasma cut the top ring and pre roll the rings. I am happy with how the whole thing turned out. Any feedback is appreciated.

It was very simple. I needed a reduced coupler since my supply stub was 3/4”. And I didn’t use their expensive pan. I used the center drop from my top circle cut out. It was very easy. I do need to add a regulator at the meter since the output is a little high.

For what it’s worth, i needed to go back and add in a regulator to take the pressure down to 125,000 BTUs

It looks great. It might be a dumb question but where is you gas line running to? And what kind of rocks in the top?

We planned ahead and have the 3/4” natural gas line riser coming up between the inner and outer rings so that all plumbing is hidden, and protected, inside the steel ring.

The rock is fire glass. It isn’t cheap but we found some online on clearance.
