Welding Tips and Tricks

Been fabricating a small fixture table lately.
Plate is 600x500x8 mm.
Have wanted a decent table for long but dont have the space for it so I made this to be somewhat portable.
The rollers will not engage until its folded and tilted a bit.
Made some stronghand type clamps to use with it.
Just the handle to weld on and its completed.

Nice job Anders. That looks like 1/2" plate on the top...how many drill bits did you wear out drilling those holes
Ooops just read that the top is 8mm..pays to read the wholepost sometimes

8mm is 5/16, give or take a few thousandths....

Okay, 8mm is .3149" versus .3125" for 5/16... After I said it, I had to do the math.

Actually the bit is still like new after 50 holes. Used an Alfra Rotabest core bit with plenty cutting fluid.

what patterned did you do for the wholes or space in between thanks

Roughly 2" between rows and 4" between holes. First hole is offset 2" from previous row

Made a torch holder to fit both a 9- and 26-torch.

My uncle just gave me a smaller roll around metal table with no top on it so I bet you know what I'm thinking now. Man that's a good idea! I really like the table and clamps. Been wanting a fixture table myself so I might give that a try too. Nice work.

Thx Jeff, yes my design. Some "engineering-on-the-fly" and hand bending the wire.
I really hate the ones one can by where you need to tilt and twist to release it. Almost like one of those metal puzzles

I am taking my time and looking for a small lathe to play with. I don't know alot about them and haven't used one since Highschool but more and more I am finding the need to make small parts.

Sadly just for the pillar drill.
Havent got the space for a lathe nor mill, otherwise there would be no end of the madness

The ideal workshop is a place where the madness never ends...lathe...mill...forge...3D printer...vapour blaster...etc...

What I lack in ability, I make up for in tools. I need a lathe like I need a hole in the head but I will still get one and then sit and look at it 6 months later and wonder why I bought it...Can welding fumes cause that?

I need a lathe for dozens of reasons.


* Spare knurled footpegs for rearsets

* Spare connecting rods (shift, brake) for rearsets

* Wheel spacers

* Swingarm spacers

* Disc spacers

* Frame bungs...I could go on.


...I could go on. The fact is, virtually nothing I need to make on a lathe would be very technically challenging or complex, yet all are items which, if I had to approach a local machine shop to create then, would cost me proper money.

Time to get a cheapie Siegl or similar.

Andersk......where did you get the legs?

Well I probably shouldnt take credit for the arm rest. Seen a coupple before, Jonathan made one I remember from a while ago. Think Jody has one in a video too.

The legs? I made them from 22 mm aluminium tubes.
