Thanks man! We started free hand plasma work in February. This project I spent about 2 hours and am half way done. I have been working on it for about 6 hours total yesterday but it was so hot I could work long and some of that time was tacking pieces so they didn't get cut out at the seam

Here is an update. We are getting our brand new plasma machine tomorrow. That being said we will have the completed picture up as soon as we finish if everything goes good. I have to replace the belt on our air compressor and finish getting set up. When it rains it pours around here

So excited to get the new machines.

Well it is finally done. We received our new plasma cutter this evening and it cuts like a dream. We were cutting 1/2" stuff for fun without any trouble and only at half power. I love it. Anyways couldn't resist lighting it up.

The stand is actually a roof jack pad from a coal mine.

It is about 1/2" and dome shaped it sits on top of the jack and rest against the roof. My father in law is a coal miner and they throw them out every so often so he brought some home for us. I put a 2" piece of 2x2 square tubing on the bottom and then the jack plate on the bottom of the square stock. I will take more pictures today, we got it finished late last night and decided to light it up.

My first paying job as a welder (actually my only job strictly as a welder) was welding mine jacks, easy work as they were all cut and all I did was weld. I got them in 100 at a time every few months, they must have been hard on them or just left them in place, I don't know which.

Len, both. Coal miners are hard on stuff, trust me my father in law has destroyed more of my tools than I have. Plus once they put something in they think it last forever. That is why the culverts in the driveway don't drain, the electric wire had to be replaced to our shop (indoor wire buried for 25 years), and electric fence that is rusted away.

Don't tell somebody we know, but they gave me a WPS for both 6013 and 7018 and told me they prefered the 6013 one. I prefer 7018 but welded well over 1000 with 6013 that they gave me to use. That was over 30 years ago and not a single mine has colapsed around here. who would of guessed.

My father in law built a hitch for his truck using scrap and 6013. It has been under that truck since 2000 and he has pulled some heavy loads with it without having to fix it.

Well delivered the pit to the crazy customer the other day. He CLAIMS to have liked it and was going to post it on the forum but I guess he isn't proud enough of it to share with all of you nice people. Oh well.

To give the back story, my wife and I were talking one night as we sat outside and she mentioned she would like a fire ring or pit in the back yard. We both had looked at a few rings at Lowes and liked a few. Around that same time someone had posted a picture of these sphere fire pits on Facebook and Matt had mentioned he would like to build one for his business as advertisement. Well the rest is history as far as the build. I let Matt and Alison have free reign on the final design, I just told them what I wanted at first, a sunset behind the mountains as my wife had mentioned that to me earlier. I am very impressed with their talent and will say they both are great people to work with and good people all around.
My wife really likes it but I think Chase likes it the best!

Originally I had planned for them to do what they did and I finish it. I planned on rolling a semi-circle to attach the base to the top and have the pit free floating on a high temp bearing on top. Well funny thing, the sphere gets a little hot when there is a fire in it so my thought of spinning it while in use was kinda dumb. So all I did was cut out the material they left behind for my crazy idea. Really though, one shouldn't mess with someone else's art work anyway!
