I am building a grill grate and i want to do it out of stainless is ther any suggestions on which stainless to use? I have seen a lot on using 304 but i would like to make sure i use the best possible for longevity and astetics.

316 SS is supposed to be have better corrosion resistance than the 304 SS. Use quite a bit of both for drain pans at work. The high end customers go with the 316. After seeing lots of older units in the field for our application don't see much difference. But for a grill grate I'd probably go for the 316.... but I get that stuff cheap at work. :D

For a grill grate, you'll not likely notice a difference between 304 and 316, except price. I have 304 expanded metal as a fire grate in my Weber, and it's outlasted two cooking grates.
