8. (2) 2’ x 4’ fiberglass duct board Granger part #6ZKK5
Cut hardy board for 5 sides of box ( my over was 2’ X 2’ X 1 ½’) so I cut 2 pieces 2’ X 2’ and 3 pieces 2’ X 1 ½ ‘ then I cut the 4 pieces of 2 X 2 23” long, 2 pieces of 2 X 2 15” long and 2 pieces of 2 X 2 21” long . Using a finishing nail gun I tacked the hardy board to the pieces of 2 X 2 to form an open ended box. Next I trimmed the outside on the box with 1 X 4 pieces to give support. I nest cut the 2 X 2 to go around the inside top of the box cavity. I added a 1 X 6 on the back side of the box so the light could have a solid to attachment. Next I mounted the light and electrical box inside the cavity. I then proceeded to insulate the box with the Fiber board I purchased.
I then laid out the top using overlapping 1 X 4 ‘s making the top 2 thickness of 1 X 4 ‘s see attached pictures for completed project. I have temperature control cycling at 180 degrees but the temp can be raised to over 250 degrees.
I did this project because there are a lot of post asking about a DIY oven and I need one so I thought I would share my design.
What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

nice looking oven. i guess every welder at some time or another builds an oven to keep his/her rods. i had one made from an old fridge with cutouts for floodlights. again, good job!

I made a simple one out of an Alloy box only to hold a limited number of rods and mine is run by a 40 watt light globe. I only turn it on when needed. I must make a better box and perhaps leave the light on all the time rather than when needed only.
Another thing i made was with 10 mm poly pipe. Cut it to 450mm lengths and sealed one end with a cap then on the other end a cap with a handle attached to open it. I takes one 5kg packet of rods nicely and i can carry it around with me. I had a packet of silica gel in there but dropped the box and there were silicon balls all over the place. Thats what i did.
