3g and 4g 1" plate test dual-shield fluxcore.

Need help with a 3g and 4g 1" plates tests. I'm using a Millermatic 252 .045 wire. 1" plate with a 1/4" backing plate. I bevel the plate at 35 to 37.5 degrees. should they be 22.5? I use 24 volts and 280 wire speed for the root. I sits in fine. my problem is as I fill in the bevel I start to get cold lap or Ill crown up. I'm thing that as I weld and add more metal I need to increase my volts since my plate is getting thick is this right? Should I increase my amperage? can someone send me some volt and wire speed setting for this test? and overhead as well?
