What the hell is Trim and what does it effect?

I'd have to know what machine, and source the manual to tell you with certainty, but my two best guesses are:

Inductance. This comes in to play when you choose to change from short-circuit to globular transfer to spray-arc.

Amperage correction (like "dig" on a DC stick machine) to help you with inconsistent stick-out.

Depending on the maker, it could even be a burn-back adjustment.

Give us a make and model, and we may be able to find the specifics.
