MIG wire speed chart

Hi All,

I liked Jody's how-too video on setting up the wire speed for the particular material you are working with when MIG welding. He refers to his web site, which hosts the chart and formulas he refers to in the video.

I like these charts so much I wanted to print this out and keep it near the MIG box at home, along with the formula for determining optimum wire speed based on the wire you are using and the material being welded. My Junior College has a nice printing department with laminating capabilities; so I can make a very nice looking copy for this. Problem is that the charts as shown on the web site are images, and grainy editions at that.

Does anyone here have a very nice soft copy of this chart and formula?
Let me know, otherwise I have some fat-fingered typing to do to put this into Excel.

Adam

This is way easier for you to do in Excel

material thickness x 1000 or 1600 or 2000 or 3500

.020 x 1000 = 20 (.045)
.020 x 1600 = 32 (.035)
.020 x 2000 = 40 (.030)
.020 x 3500 = 70 (.024)

Below are excel formulas to create the colums B,C,D,E,F
Material thickness in cell B4 formulas in C,D,E,F
  • 0.020 | =B4*1000 | =B4*1600 | =B4*2000 | =B4*3500
    0.030 | =B5*1000 | =B5*1600 | =B5*2000 | =B5*3500
    0.040 | =B6*1000 | =B6*1600 | =B6*2000 | =B6*3500
    0.050 | =B7*1000 | =B7*1600 | =B7*2000 | =B7*3500

I'm just trying to link this thread back to Jody's source chart.

If I'm right, its here: http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/mig ... ics-3.html

If I'm wrong, what the heck, it is still such a good lesson for people trying to bump through their first few weeks of welding, and using a machine that has no chart, no friends to show them, etc.

Both Lincoln and Miller now have online (Android) apps for calculating that automatically for all the processes. ESAB app used to only be MIG. Not sure if anything had changed.

Those apps are just about as useful as a bungy cord ruler.....

Learn to weld first. :D
