Miller S22 Proper Setup to XMT 304

Hello Gents,

I am a beginning welder. I have a new-to-me, used Miller s22 unit, running off of my XMT 304.

Questions:

1. Getting this up and running, I'm not not sure the best way to connect the "welding cable" (Manual page 11, Figure 3.7) from the s22 to the XMT 304.

2. What cables do I connect from the XMT 304 to the work piece? From the negative lug or the positive lug?

When following my assumptions, I had no spark. Clearly I did not get it right.

I have run stick and TIG from the 304, but the s22 adds a layer of complexity that I don't quite get.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey, Scott,

For cross-reference, here are the manuals for the S-22a:

http://www.millerwelds.com/service/loca ... name=S-22A

And the XMT 304:

http://www.millerwelds.com/service/loca ... t_name=XMT 304 CC %26 CC/CV (230/460 AND 460/575)

Both are sorted by unit serial #, so you can see if you have the correct manuals.

I've not looked at the manuals yet, but the sales brochures make that combination look like "plug-n-play", so if you're hooked up like the manual says, something else may not be right. Could be as simple as a circuit breaker needing reset, or the voltmeter sensor on the S22 needing switched from + to - or vice-versa, or simply a bad connection at the remote hookup, or even a bad ground between the s22 and the 304.

I'll try to have a look at the manuals before I post again. Let us know if you work it out in the meantime.
