It is usually used in auto body repair and usually on sheet metal. The weld from a mig can be pretty hard especially with most of the mig wire available. In order to be able to grind the weld down flush for body work, companies came out with easy grind wire. It grinds easier to prevent heat build up and helps with distortion problems.
I use gas for my sheet metal welding and so I have not had a whole lot of experience with it. I do use it every once in a while, and I like it for fit up, but I found my Henrob torch was just a better way for me to weld up patch panels to finish it up. I usually mig spot the panel in place with the EZ grind wire and then gas weld with the Henrob the rest of it.
