One of the tips for MIG welding is to make sure your contact tip is flush or slightly protruding. Does this hold true for either gas and flux core....? Thanks....Rickzzz (novice welder)

This is true for solid wire and dual-shield, in my experience. Straight flux-core (no gas) doesn't require a nozzle, and you need only focus on the wire stick-out.

Personally, I prefer to keep my tip just inside the nozzle by about an eighth of an inch.

I tried having the tip stick out by a sixteenth. No joy for me- melted two tips in short order. I am learning to weld and don't have the control to maintain even wire stick out. Had to go back to a sixteenth-eighth inside of the nozzle.
