Backup Bar?

Here's a new one for you guys. Has anyone tried using a copper backup bar while migging thin aluminum? I wanted to use my spool gun on some thinner stuff but I kept having burn thru issues. I tried to crank my power source (Miller 301G) sown in voltage but it bottoms out around 15V and I couldn't seem to dial it in to run any colder. I wondered if this had been tried by anybody or if it would even help. Thoughts?

I've used a piece of flat steel bar as a backer for thin aluminum and it's worked very well. Never tried copper, though.

it should work great, I use it all the when welding thin aluminum at work when the customer wants zero bleed through, that is tig welding but should work just as well with a mig. Use the thickest piece that you can find, it will help to draw heat from the weld and if you get it to fit right it will flateen out any bleed through you do get.
