So I am a beginner welder, been wanting to learn forever and finally decided I need to learn if I am to work on my on my old truck project. I purchased a Hobart 140 as it said you could weld up to 1/4 and works with 110v plus I don't plan to go no where near that thick. I also have a few buddies that said that's all i'll ever need. Watched a lot of youtube and got me some flatbar and started running beads. My welding buddies say i'm doing pretty dang good but I always 2nd guess myself

Opinions and thoughts ?

not bat at all. May I suggest a 2" grinder so you can get some roloc sanding disks and some Naval Jelly or similar rust remover or anything that has phosphoric or nitric acid? cutting/polishing/etching tells you a lot more than any "approvals" from the internet.

I've always just used Naval Jelly from Lowes, but while I was at home depot looking for it, they didn't have it so I bough a gallon of Klean Strip Phosphoric Prep & Etch. Let's see how well this one works. I can always use it for de-rusting parts anyways.
