Fcaw-s

Hello everyone asking for some knowledge. I’m new to flux core-s welding and I’m experiencing a weird thing. Welding clean 3/16 steel if I run a stringer bead no joint, there is almost no slag in the top of the weld, and it’s dark gray. No matter the heat or wire speed, or drag angle. But welding any type of joint I get a very nice weld, with a light slag all over the weld that will come off easy, and leaves a shiny bead any ideas ?

If its the same wire, then it is a result of difference in technique you are using. Are able to maintain a proper and consistent CTWD?

Is this a normal looking flux core weld? Other then a couple of gas holes of course. Not sure what happened.

Yea, looks pretty typical after scrubbing off the slag and what not.
