Welding Tips and Tricks

Going to be welding these brackets onto a ditching bucket, converting it to fit my dads Kubota mini excavator. Does anyone have a recommendation for a certain wire or process, maybe dual shield? I have a Lincoln PowerMig 300, I’m probably going to clean up all the scale, use the wire I have, 0.35 solid wire and pulse spray it in as hot as my machine goes. Or would it be worth getting dual shield? I’ve never used anything other than solid wire.

Personally, if you're indoors and have cleaned the steel, and have that much power available, I would use the mig wire you have with no worries.

I think it’ll work too. Running dual shield in flat seems to be frowned upon because of risk of slag inclusion. I’ll spray in some solid wire once I get some rainy days to get me out of the fields for a day.

I used to work at a place where we did lots of those conversions and made custom attachments and buckets. 99 % was always just 70s Mig.

Either process will be fine. Use the process your currently set up for. If your doing fillet welds, put a slight bevel on the piece to get a little more penetration.
Flat position duel shield won’t bury slag if you run it correctly. Duel shield will penetrate better in the flat position without as much requirement for bevelling.
