Hey guys I recently started working in a skid shop. We use mcaw for most of our stuff and mostly 1/16th wire. I'm just looking to see if anyone has some tips to pass along I've had a couple issues with undercut here and there so I've been playing with my voltage and wire feed as well as travel speeds to work the kinks out but I'm getting frustrated at times as the consistency isn't there.
Been looking on YouTube for some metal core vids but not having much luck.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Metal core runs really hot, and im assuming 1/16 runs really really hot. If it's fillet weld undercut you are talking about, try placing the wire about 2-3mm out from the top plate, laying the gun angle down to point at the top plate and go for it. That 2-3mm gap between the arc and the top plate will allow the weld to wash over nicely with out the arc really chewing away the top plate.

"Metal-core"... At 1/16, I assume this is the same thing I call "dual-shield"? Meaning a flux-core wire that requires shielding gas?
I have done this, but literally only in the true 1F position.

Metal core wire is like an iron powder for mig. The inside of the wire has metal gunk (sorry) which adds to the over all deposition rate of the wire.

http://www.welding-alloys.com/products- ... -m-71.html not sure if this is close, but doesn't have a slag, so to speak, more like a glassy layer that can be welded over.

Here's a thread on metal core. http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?480211-Metal-Core
It's a high deposition mig wire.
Hollow inside, and has iron powder.
Not duelshield.

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

when good welders go bad, using metal core on an automatic gantry welder that decided to halt forward movement whilst welding.
