I MIG weld 304 and 316 stainless with good luck but I've got a job where I need to weld custom machined 303 stainless tubes to 18 ga 304 sheet. I just read the section on "TIG Welding 303 Stainless and other things you aint supposed to do" so I at least have an idea that you can get away with it on occasion. The piece only has to stand up to light vacuum and pressure and doesn't need a lot of strength so the requirements aren't huge. Just wondering if anyone has tried to pull something like this off with MIG. Not about to buy a TIG so, if it's impossible, I'll have to contract it out but I would really rather not. Any direct experience with MIG on 303-to-303 or 303-to-other SS is appreciated.
Why, no, I'm not a welder. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
