We had welded plate joint to the width of 165 mm and thick of 32 mm in which we found micro porosity in internal weld metal which we checked through Ultrasonic equipment. We do not know the reason which has contributed this problem. We have used this machine for welding of above joint with DOUBLE IGBT Invertor based MIG welding. This machine is operated with three phase,415 V. Due to power crisis in our area, we have connected this machine with TWO phase with additional capacitors. Is any body there to resolve the issue and provide advice.

Three main causes for microporosity are residue in the joint by grinding with a contaminated disc, a bad batch of wire, and contaminated gas (usually moisture). I doubt the power supply could cause this.

Good luck,
