Hi, I work for an architectural metal shop and lately they have been taking on a lot of bronze jobs. I use a Miller Dynasty on DCEN with a max of 200 amps, air-cooled torch, foot pedal, 3/32" 2% sharpened thoriated tungsten, silicon bronze filler rods. On less than 1/4" base material I do pretty good. 1/4" I had to preheat with a torch until it discolored to get it to flow. Then I got a job to weld a 1/4" channel between 2- 3/4" plates. It seems like I just cant get it hot enough, even with preheating. I finally got enough around it to be strong enough, but it was not pretty. Any tips would be appreciated, should I set it up with 1/8" tungsten? Machine just not big enough? THANKS

More amps.... so if you are stuck with that size machine you need more preheat, good rose bud and acetylene should do that in short order.
I weld stainless, stainless and more stainless...Food Industry, sanitary process piping, vessels, whatever is needed, I like to make stuff.

Thanks Rick, just did another bronze job, 1/2" plate. preheated pretty hot then got right to it and it flowed much better.
The boss said there is a job coming up that is a 3' squares of 2" thick bronze plate that needs 1/2" plate welded to them. Going to be some sort of high dollar table. We'll see how that goes !!
