Backfeeding/ Looking through the gap

I would like to learn how to tig weld a root while looking through the bevel. I am using a regular lens because with an automatic the sensors will get blocked and I will get flashed. I am also running at 80-90 amps, gapping at 5/32 and running 1/8 and if it slams shut then I will run 3/32. How should I manipulate the torch? should I walk the cup or try to free hand it. I would highly appreciate any help from anyone who knows how to back feed or as some call it weld through the gap.

This is a method that's useful to know because if you do a fair amount of welding, sooner or later you will come up against a job where you can't get your head in to see but you can get the torch in. Needless to say you can only get one pass in that way. If you need more passes then you have to use a mirror.
First of all you have to find a comfortable way to hold the torch so it's not shaking around. I have it in the palm of my hand with the back cap poking between my second and third fingers that way you can have your finger tips and wrist steadying the torch on the job well. Other methods work well too depending on preference and available space.
Keep the electrode tip in the middle of the joint but out a little so you don't touch it with the rod. Now light up and put the rod end into the arc to form a puddle. I then manipulate the rod in a weave while keeping the arc steady in direction of travel rather than trying to weave the torch. You can get a surprisingly good looking pass (on the inside which is where it counts).
I use a 1/8" gap with 3/32" rod (that's all we seem to be able to get round here) so things might be a bit different with 5/32" gap & 1/8" rod.
