Hey guys,

First post, I will get round to doing an intro. It's just this have been bugging me a few days, I need to get it out there and see what people think.

Back story:
Been looking for a tig set for home for a while now. I'm on a tight budget for now, all it will be is a hobby set. I've got a big set work. But I wanted one for myself.
I wanted one with gas solenoid and hf so converting a stick set was out of the question.

Stumbled across a set this weekend and snapped it up. It had everything I wanted, up and down slope, pulse with adjustable freq. 200A with an ok duty.
And it was affordable and pretty much new.

So I'm setting it up in my shed and notice that there is no 2t/4t selector switch.
On the next model up there is in the manual, but not this one.

I do use this feature at work a lot.

Can this be manufactured? I'm thinking of rigging up a 12v relay to act like the 2t/4t switch, just need to figure it out on paper first.

So what are your thoughts? All comments welcome.

After some careful thought over a couple of beers, if I can't make a clean install on the unit I'll probably just install a separate swith on the torch or cable. It will override the original switch on 4t but still allow 2t to be used.

I've had the case off today, on the control board there is a place for the 2t/4t switch, but it's not been added, looking like the other models use the same control board.
I'll try and attach a picture.

On my thermal arc 186 the 4T controls the staging for up slope and down slope so that would involve some software issues I think. What kind of welder spacificly?

If you look at the conductors coming from the switch spot it looks like it goes over to a place for a processor. You may half to swap the whole board.

Good point about the chip, I thought it might have been for a connector like the others. It does look like a chip though.

The manufacturer can probably confirm it one way or the other and tell you what's needed for the upgrade.
