I was wondering if any of you old timers have some recommendations for a newcomer on gloves to use while tig welding. Each evening for the past couple of weeks I have been practicing with my feed hand while watching TV. Surprisingly, I can now get the end of the rod to go where I want it to most of the time.
Nothing I have come across gives me anywhere near the control I have with a bare hand. Does anyone have a favorite brand or style?
thanks
david

for low amperage stuff Tillman goatskin(kid) gloves http://jtillman.com/products/gloves/tig/1324/
For higher amperage http://www.amazon.com/Stallion-Xtreme-B ... B0035XAOAA
For serious amps and heat add a tig finger http://weldmongerstore.com/collections/ ... tig-finger
Haven't tried the Miller,looks like I should.

I'm no expert, but after much faffing around I stumbled upon some particularly delicate, soft riggers gloves at my local hardware store.
$9 a pair. Tons of feel, and because I still haven't learned not to touch hot things, it is good to know they are cheap enough to replace when I 'cook' a pair to the point where the fingertips get hard and start to lack feel.
And yes, I practise rod feed in front of the TV, too!

Thanks, I'll check some of those suggestion out tomorrow when the stores open. Most of my current work is in the 50 to 70 amp range. The rigger gloves, tillmans, and millers should all work well in that range.
I used the Tillmans for years, switched to the Millers suggested above awhile back when the Tillmans were out of stock, Ill never turn back. I use a lot of 030" filler and have no issue with feel, I can even pick the rod up when I drop it. I do a lot of 60amp work, but have welded up to 150amps with no issues. I do have a pair of Miller metal worker gloves I just got I've been using when MIG/TIG welding, a little bulker but are great when I'm cutting, fabricating and welding.

I use these for an all around glove and they have lasted longer than the last pair of miller tig gloves I had. I weld around 180 amps max and heat hasn't been an issue. On my second pair as of today.

Up until now most of my welding has been 150amps and below, I don't use on glove for this, then again I don't weld
most of the day.

CVS pharmacy, and thousands of other stores sell the Ove Glove. It's made of Novex, and Kevlar. It's a great welding glove. Together with the TIG Finger youre good to go. I like nitrile glove on my filler hand.

I'm currently using BSX BT88 gloves...

I've found them quite comfortable, good protection and nice dexterity.
