TIG pulse

I've got a Syncrowave 250 in my shop at home with no pulse. I've got a Syncrowayve 350 at work with pulse. I never used pulse before yesterday. I had some free time at work so I got some scrap aluminum and started playing with it, and I like it. I was wondering if anybody had ever added pulse to a Syncrowave. I'd like to put it on mine if it's not extremely expensive and hard to install. The front panel has the holes and it's labeled for pulse, but the holes are plugged.

You can buy the board and upgrade.
Or you can pulse manually. I do this all the time on aluminum. It's easiest with music on at the right tempo... I'll work the pedal like I'm tapping my foot to a song, and it works just fine (and is a lot cheaper than the upgrade board).
Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" is a good tempo for 1/8" aluminum, once it's hot and running.

Depending on how old your syncro is you may only be able to get up to 10pps... That's what we have at work in the main shop. The real benefits of pulse are seen with higher pulse rates, 60+ in my experience.
I like using pulse on thin stainless sheet metal, especially at the edges works very nice.

Rick,
When welding aluminum (not thin sections), I like 2PPS, and set it broad... 15% background, 30% "on time". This makes "dab and go" almost automatic.
I have seen the benefits of rapid pulse, too, and can't argue, but low pulse rates have their place.

Yeah that is similar to what I use if I use it on alum, I shouod have stated most of my work is stainless. I use 25% back 75% peak, 10-60pps on thin stainless, 65amps on 16g.
I do find of you have a hard time with rhythm and your new to alum the low pulse rate also works as a good learning tool, but I try to show guys without it so they don't get spoiled.

I've been TIG welding for about 30 years now. Seems like I would have tried pulse a long time ago, but never figured it would be mush use. I thought the pedal was good enough. I've been pulsing with the pedal all this time. After messing with pulse for a while I could see that it could be useful.
My Syncrowave 250 is around 10 years old. It has the digital display.

I'm going to have to try this on some SS next week. I've got a lot to learn about this.

You might like to check out this post.

It discusses adding Pulse and interfaces where the foot pedal connects.
Maybe this helps

this could be a completely new thread: which songs vs. material type to manually pulse with. . .

I have a synchro 250 with an updated motherboard from 2013; the chassis itself was from 1989
I wouldn't mind having the pulser option installed in mine - anyone investigated it enough to know how much the pulser circuit goes for ?

I can't remember to get the model number off of my machine so that I can check on it.
