Welding Tips and Tricks

Wife just bought me the longevity stick weld 140 as a present for getting out of the military. She knows I have been wanted a little box to stick weld with around the house and this fit all my needs. Anyways, it doesn't have the capability for lift arc or hf, but can it do scratch start tig? The syncrowave I'm used to obviously has a switch and is hf capable. Not really used to these small welders yet? All answers appreciated.

Hey mate. All DC inverters can scratch start. Just hook up a tig torch with a gas valve to the DC - port and tig away. Can be a little difficult, but can do excellent welds.

I'm going to give you a link to a thread about this from awhile back, but just remember that not all of the welders are the same. Yours may be set up to do scratch start, check with Longevity.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I actually watched all welding tips and tricks videos on scratch start tig last night and now I wanna know about that wooden footpedal he was using. Seemed like he was able to stop the arc and use the valve on the torch to manually post flow. Impressive lol again thanks for all the answers and now I'll be on the hunt for a torch, argon bottle and regulator. Thanks again!!
