Can anyone tell me how this is done or tell me one of Jody's videos that explains it. That is, an overlapping TIG weld on stainless that does not look like the stack of dimes. It looks more like a left and right weld that over laps or is woven together along the length of the weld. I've seen it on German Weldporn and other sites on facebook. I have attached this photo from German Weldporn. Can it be done on mild steel?
Thanks
Steve Rhodes

Welcome, Steve,
Yes it can be done on carbon steel. You won't get that pretty rainbow color, but you'll get the "tractor tracks" shown in your image.
Search videos on "walking the cup". To duplicate the picture you posted, also search "socket welds".
Someone here is likely working on this, and can give you a specific video. If I have time, I'll do a quick search, too.
By the way, this topic belongs in the TIG forum, and I'll move it there presently.

I've done this weave style just to try it (free hand, no cup walking).
Weave, pause, dip - weave to the other side, pause, dip - repeat.
There are other ways I'm sure, I only experimented with it.

Very nice, the upper bead has 2 overlapping beads..otherwise they are multiple beads on the pipe with a single pass WTC cap. @motox
Very even, very clean, very nice.

There's a few pretty slick ally weaves too. Some walk the cup, and some freehand weave. There's lots of videos and info on it. Get on Instagram, there's tons of it on there!

Walkwithmeinhell225 has some crazy tight weaves. Like, robotic tight. I got on Instagram just so I could follow those guys. That's my weld fix, right there.

AK, what settings are you at walking that tight? Doesn't look like a lot of heat build up?

I didn't do any of the welds in this thread.
I took these all of Instagram.
