Check out my review of the Harbor Freight 98233 Inveter. I'm brutally honest.

That's the one I "learned" how to tig with. I bought it because I wanted something cheap to decide if tig was going to be for me. The clunkiness of the torch forces you to learn "the hard way" which I feel is beneficial because before the advent of fancy flex-head tig torches, professional weldors were getting things done with standard torches and no foot/hand amperage controls. Of course it has high-freq start, so it's not too bad since it's pretty much a standard feature on dedicated tig welders. I sold it and moved on to an Eastwood tig200 is to see if moving on to welding aluminum and having more controls was going to be for me, and sure enough, it was addictive. Then sold that and bought a dual-voltage HTP 221 Invertig with an extensive water cooler setup that should keep me happy for a good while.
