Hi Everyone
Does anyone here know where I can get a stubby gas lense kit for my smaller CK torches? Like series 2 torches - where can I get a gas lense kit for these?
I really like the stubby gas lense kit for the series 3 torches, where is the stubby gas lense kit for the series 2 torches?
Adam

Ok, so I browse through the options on the web page, for the CK series 2 torch head.
I can't see the forest for the trees! LOL
What are you guys using for stubby gas lenses on the smaller CK torches?
I am working on stainless steel for food grade applications, milk containers, wine tanks, food processors, etc.
Let me know what you guys have in mind!
Adam

http://www.ckworldwide.com/Catalog.pdf
Page 54 shows both the smaller cups and the large diameter gas savers for size 9.
I use 17/26, but I understand that the stubby 17 kit is basically an adapter that allows use of the smaller 9/26 cups, and that's why there isn't a comparable "stubby" kit for size 9.
Cheers,
Richard

If you need smaller than size 2 have a look at the micro torch from CK.
Advertised as "weld inside of a 5/8" tube"

There is no "stubby" kit for a 9 or 20.
That's why you can't find anything.

A regular 9/20 gas lens is as small as you can get.
A stubby gas lens is a 9/20 style gas lens with bigger threads to screw into a 17/26 torch head. they take 9/20 cups, which is what makes them stubby.

Ya you don't have to explain it to me.
but you can always go with a 24 torch or micro torch to go smaller.

The Gas lens for the 9/20 torches are the following part numbers for the collet bodies use either first set of numbers or numbers in ( ) these use the same alumina cups as a stubby 17/26 use
2GL20 (45V41) .20 tungsten
2GL40 (45V42) .40 tungsten
2GL116 (45V43) 1/16 tungsten
2GL332 (45V44) 3/32 tungsten
2GL418 (45V45) 1/8 tungsten
now if you need a smaller profile collet body and cup for a 9/20 torch they do make a short collet body. These are not gas lens but are about half the size of a 9/20 gas lens cup when assembled, with these short collect bodies you have to use reverse collets also.
6CB20 .20 tungsten
6CB40 .40 tungsten
6CB116 1/16 tungsten
6CB332 3/32 tungsten
6CB418 1/8 tungsten
if you have not found it yet this link gives you break down of CK part numbers to use on that torch
2 series torches

I have used USAWELD to build a lot of my lens kits so far I found they had best pricing and even got me some weird stuff they didn't stock. local LWS prolly would have taken months to get it, they got in a few days for me.

I don't think you can ever have too many tig torch parts.

except maybe alumina cups, which are sometimes only sold in 5- or 10-packs, lol.

Well done guys!
Is there a getting started package for the 9/20 series torches for gas lenses?
I see that there are getting started packages for the torches with collets, does anyone offer the same thing but for gas lens packages?

Yes there are kits out there. I make up my own kits get more parts for the money.
Here is listing for couple of kits
http://www.usaweld.com/Gas-Lens-Kit-for ... enskit.htm
Other places have them too
I suggest with collets to buy the wedge collets. You will either lose them or die before you wear them out. After i got them I never use the split collets anymore. So i now have split collets in box that I bought several at a time that might never get used

I checked out those collet bodies on Google. Turns out they they are made so you can use the 24-series alumina cups, which are limited to #3-6 only, as I have yet to find a #8 for my 24 torch. Pretty cool none the less.

only thing I found was 4 different sizes for those small Alumina cups. These are the short cup part numbers. I couldn't find anything bigger than 3/8. Prolly by the way collet body is made believe you would have gas coverage issues by going to a bigger diameter then 3/8 unless it was made like a champagne nozzle using some sort of diffuser or if it could be made like a miniature gas lens
#2 1/8" PN-8A1
#4 1/4" PN-8A4
#5 5/16" PN-8A5
#6 3/8" PN-8A6

Will CK's Gas Saver line not fit the bill? They have #4-#8 in the smaller gas lens, and a jumbo that's a #18. Admittedly, probably not very stubby...

as for as a miniature gas lens they have these but not sure if they could be used with a 9/20 series torch. since it looks like the 24 Teflon washer for them is same washer used to use 9/20 lens with the 24 I believe it could be used on a nine torch. Oscar you might have some of these ever tried to convert to a 9 torch part number 8GL332 for the lens. if these can be used on a nine then we will by definition have a stubby 9/20 gas lens set up. since all a stubby 26 is using the 9 lens hence a 9 using the 24 lens now stubby.

They make these in .40, 1/16, 3/32. They might make more just what I found
8GL040
8GL116
8GL332

I didn't even know about those. Good to know CK makes them. Seems the'll fit in the 24 torches as well as the 9/20. Only one way to find out..

Yep only one way. Ok who wants to part with some cash
way I figure it is this break down of parts should make a Stubby Gas Lens for 9/20 torch
Alumina Cup____Gas Lens_____Teflon Washer_____Collet
....8A1....................8GL040................2GHS...................6C40
....8A4....................8GL116............................................6C116
....8A5....................8GL332............................................6C332
....8A6
I believe these part number should build you a 9 stubby kit do not know for sure. I do not have all these on hand to try it out. This parts list is using 24 torch gas lens and the reverse collets for the 9/20 torch. If anyone has any thought on why this wouldn't work would be glad to hear it.
Hope you guys can make sense of those parts
typed it out as a flow table with columns and rows, board takes out spacing tried to use the list commands errrrrr didn't work out. Looked up making tables in phpbb had no luck so I left it like it was Sorry if need be I can make it as a list. To me personally though it makes the post long and drug out. If it would only keep the spacing
Couldn't take it being bunched up so when back and added periods and stuff to try and space it out, it bothered me. Yep I'm a perfectionist on some things.
