Toxic Fab 1" TiCup set

Was watching Hot Rod Garage last night and they had Toxic Fab on showing off their Titanium and ceramic Tig cup sets. I looked them up and of course they are out of stock. Has anyone used this product before? I know they are expensive but would like to try one for the fun of it. One thing I do not like is the use of scotchbrite on the Ti cup otherwise they look great.
Jody, see if you can get them to send you samples and review them on your show!

A mutual friend of mine ordered the TiCup several weeks ago. I'll ask him what his opinion is on it, and report back once I find out.

I dont see the need for such an animal, unless you're constantly melting alumina/pyrex cups. A CK jumbo 1-1/8" pyrex kit can be had for $100 complete. Even cheaper, a large 1" gas lens for a 9 or 17 style is around $7, and you can get five #15 cups for around $8. :)

Just throwing a couple cents out there :)

EDIT: I just read this from the www.radweldingsupplies.com website,
Do's, Don'ts, and Tip's!
Meant for lower amperage welding on DC current ONLY!
Do not exceed 120amps for extended periods of time
Use up to 2 diffusers and fine tune coverage to your liking
Once the surface of the diffuser shows signs of blackening, replace with a fresh one
DO NOT USE ON AC WELDING
Seems of pretty limited use to me. :?:

So I assume since you flamed him, you know him personally? I am not interested in his personal life, just his products.

I have the #14 toxic cup on a 9 torch. It is excellent for getting into tight places when welding titanium. It is a lot smaller than a large gas lens and #12 cup (about 1 1/4" shorter including the insulator and 1/4" smaller diameter), which for me means I can get into some tighter angles without as much stickout. If you are doing a lot of titanium or want your stainless to stay gold, it is a great tool.

Jonathan, here's a titanium joint I just did with the Toxic #14 cup. Love the coverage. I forgot to mention before that the one for 9/20 torches fits on a small gas lens, which is one reason it's so much smaller than the large gas lens and #12 cup. It also means needing only one size gas lens and collet rather than keeping large and small consumables in stock. Anyway, any questions, let me know.

Zank,
As always that is a beautiful weld!! Thanks for sharing your experience with this product. I see it has good coverage. I will add this product to my want list and see what happens. For fun can you post a picture of your set up?

Of course I'm stilling learning...!

Am I understanding it right that they're using scotch brite type pads as diffusers?
Which of course brings me to the question of diffusers..lol...something else to read up on.
I've only been on the forum for a short while and my search button is getting worn out. :D

I went to the website and wasn't sure if I was at a tatto site or a welding site. :geek:

Yes the Titanium cup set used scotch-brite as the diffuser
Quote from their website "The Ticup runs a precision cut scotchbrite style defuser. Unlike others on the market, we have personally ordered every single color, brand, and style scotchbrite and thoroughly tested for durability, heat resistance, contamination, and consistency of weave. We are confident that this is the best diffuser system for this style cup and provides both excellent gas coverage as well as durability."

I keep a clean set of everything for working with titanium. Gloves, TIG finger, anything that comes into contact with the material. My general use TIG finger is looking pretty ratty.

The gloves are the lightweight nomex gloves from weldporn.com. They are really nice for feeding thin wire.

It has been a while since we started this thread and now I see Toxicfab has some sweet new products. I have been following his progression to bring these products to market on Instagram and thought I would resurrect this topic in case anyone wanted to try some. I will finally be ordering some of his TIG cups along with his new RWS BPD and trailing cup attachment.

I use the toxic fab #14 cup on stainless and it works well. Now is it a way of cheating to get a nice looking weld, absolutely.

There are a number of these kinds of cups available now.

Some of the nicest are the mfurick cups which you can see at http://dogfab.com/FURICK_CUPS.php As a plus, they are less expensive than the cups that radweldingsupplies sells. They come with a very well made multi layer diffuser.

The Ti cup previously sold by radweldingsupplies was invented by a California craftsman named Chris Davenport. He sold it himself for several years, and in the last few months has taken it back and is selling it again himself. It's no longer on radweldingsupplies.com You can find the Ti Cup at cdaven271 on instagram, with some beautiful work as well.

Radweldingsupplies sells a ceramic cup with a custom diffuser now in several sizes. The downside is that they are pricey.

I think Jody, the owner of this board, also is selling larger cups now in his store, so there's lots of quality options for the larger cups now. http://weldmongerstore.com/collections/ ... s-lens-kit

I also tried to get in touch with cdaven271 and got no response of any kind. He must be indepentantly wealthy, because he doesn't need to sell those cups or he'd answer the inquiries about how to buy them.

I can assure you he's none of the above. He's a good guy that welds full time, and made these cups on the side for several years because he needed one and nobody was making them...

When he and Toxicfab parted ways, I think that he had to resume production of what had been a purely low key product he made for himself and friends. There were routine "outages" when Taxicab was selling them, since they're made in low volume production runs. I read that it's taking some time to get that started again...

The least he can do is respond and say they are out of stock until further notice. or post on his fb or ig that they are sold out.
