My question is can you overheat a aluminum weld? Some tig welds look like they barely melt it in.... Mine are hotter... Ive always welded on the hot side?

How does this effect the strength? And what if you Re-Heat them?

ImageImageThis was something im working on... Originally I did it with the MIG. Decided to "clean up" the look of my welds.... Went over them with the tig and reheated them. This first one is the weld in question. I know it was a little dirty.

These parts go on here... Image
I built the bimini frame... Brackets, and did all the sewing on the sunbrella fabric too.

This was before the fabric was streched tight.

You CAN overheat some aluminum welds. 6061T-6, for example, is a hardened material that any welding will affect the properties of. In that case, your goal is to limit heat input when welding to narrow the affected zone as much as possible, and use a filler that will have similar properities when chilled.

Most mild alloys, though, this is not much of an issue.
