Why this one didn't pass Xray?

This had been IN SERVICE like this, pumping hydrogen at 6000 PSI! It's 3/4" XXS 304 SS.
Virtually every weld in the system (a couple hundred) will be redone, and re-rated to 8000 PSI.

I talked to a guy tonight who did ethanol plants about the same time I did. His outfit was butting square pipe ends together and putting a one pass cap on them!

Hey,
Luckily you found this during maintenance. However all too often shoddy crap is the cause of an accident/death. It makes me wonder, when i put so much effort into my work, why some people are happy to accept any old crap.

Especially on something like a tanker trailer. Or an ethanol plant, but at least the pipe ends were square when they butted them together. That's a step in the right direction, anyways.
Few things I've ever welded have been critical to life and limb, but that's never stopped me from taking a test piece and beating the crap out of it just to see if it holds up and my settings are right.
