Tig welding a vertical v groove with a 45 degree bevel 1/16th open root. Im using a number 6 cup with 1/16 diameter electrode 1.5% lanthated. I've had my machine set anywhere from 80 to 140 and i keep getting suck back. My shielding is 100% argon and around 15 psi. The front looks awesome very constant bead quality. The back looks like a train wreck. I've tried slow, fast, lots of filler. I've tried 1/16 filler rod and 3/32. I cleaned my material to shiny metal. It's kicking my ass. Any ideas of what could be happening would be great. Thanks.

Hi there,

We had this prob during our pipe cert. The way we beat it was to use 2.4mm filler and literally force it into the weld pool. It doesnt feel right but it worked. other than that, jody has videos on how to lay in a tig open root. On the main wt&t page under tig videos.
