I was laying some beads on steel without filler as I am just learning and practicing. Then all of a sudden my arc instead of striking down on to the metal it was shooting up the tungsten and into the cup making a crackling noise and it's kinda scary. Any idea why this is happening? Miller diversion 180 #17 style torch #8 furick clear cup weldmonger stubby glass lens kit pure tungsten on 1/8 inch carbon steel. I know that I'm supposed to use 2% lanthanated and I have since bought a pack of new tungsten. Any help will be amazing. Thanks forum.

I've been trying to learn to move around the site and yes I've been reading everything. Is there something specific you are pointing me too?

The potential issue with your gas flow, your torch assembly, or possibly being set to AC versus DC.
