Just starting out with TIG. Just wondering what bead width is supposed to be? Running beads on plate steel. #8 cup on a 26 flex torch gas lens with 3/32 tungsten. No filler rod .

Scribe parallel lines 3/32” apart. Let that width be your guide as a drill.

There is no standard answer. It ALL depends upon the application, joint configuration, etc. But to learn and practice, make yourself stay consistent on your travel speed, movement, and torch angle. Those scribed lines help immensely.

Once you start adding filler, make the lines 1/8” wide and use a 1/16 or 3/32 filler and dip until you get the bead width to fill the spacing. Practice, play and enjoy the learning process.
