]I recently took the advice of a few of you on this site and made some adjustments. Gas lens, bigger cup, lower heat. OK..why are half the welds still grey? Look like my torch angle maybe? Any help would be great. Thanks

That would be torch angle or not enough gas flow. The shielding gas is not covering the weld bead long enough for it to cool to make it look like a rainbow all the way across.

I am not the best so I use a large gas lense and way more post flow than normal to C my A on stainless. Don't use too much gas flow as it may create turbulence and effect the full coverage.

I'm using a gas lens at around 18-20 cfh with the pedal pressed. Red tungsten
3/32. #8 cup 3/32 309Lss filler. I ordered some 1/16 filler BC I'm thinking that
3/32 is a little large for 1/16" SS SHEETMETAL. whitch I think is 304. I will try to turn the
Gas down a little and see.

Well I got it whipped now, My filler rod ( at the time 3/32) waaaaay to thick obviously bc no sooner than I switched to 1/16" the welds turned out beautiful. Nice color no nasty, ugly grey welds anymore. Hope this exp of mine helps someone else out there.

Useing 3/32 red tungsten.
Gas lens(do it,it helps)
# 8 cup
15cfh
50 amps. (varies)
This was used on a 1/16" SS sheet metal 304
1/16" 308L SS filler.

Yes sir.....and although it was a simple fix, I really did change quite a few things along the way. Torch angle, not pulling the filler out of the gas shield area...etc etc. so ya, HELL YA..I got it.
