I recently got a Tig 300/300 made in 1984 which was set up for stick welding and didn't come with a tig torch, pedal or anything. I have since picked up a torch and foot pedal, but am waiting a couple of weeks for a regulator, filler rods, electrodes and torch parts to come in. Is there any way to test out the current control/tig functions on the machine ahead of time? or do I simply need to wait for everything to come in and test it out? I have done quite a bit of stick and mig welding in the past, but am new to tig. Thanks

Hi, we have the same machine, it is an excellent tig welding machine, you should really wait for the gas and gas supply's, it really needs that argon atmosphere to sustain a clean arc, otherwise you will have a big sooty splatted mess. just to let you know, anytime you weld aluminum make sure its super clean and a little preheat will make it weld 100% better. if you need any other info about your machine let me know.

Thanks for the reply opiesvtx...that is what I figured. I'm just anxious to find out if everything works ok in this old machine. Parts will be here soon enough.
