Getting ready to take my first test for 2G, 1-1/2" OD x .095" 4130. so I have a few question and any advice is appreciated. First going to prep tube to 60 degree bevels. Is a root gap needed for this size tube? What size filler 1/16 or 3/32? Two passes?

Thanks, Kevin

Is there a Weld Procedure Specification for this test or maybe a code?

60 deg seams like a lot of bevel, unless you mean both bevels together equaling 60. But it’s only .095 so not sure you can bevel that. Definitely won’t leave much room for land.

Must meet D17.1 spec's. The bevels are 30 degrees, just not sure if needed for .095" of course has to be full pen.

I'd gap it 3/32" and with 3/32" wire, lay the wire flat and walk over it for the first pass at 80 amps to get motoring around fast. This prevents over penetrating and over heating. Let cool. Then I'd cap it with 1/16" wire 70 amps, this prevents over reinforcement.
