Welding Tips and Tricks

I have had my Square Wave for several months and used with no issues, except the regulator that comes with it. Yesterday I fired it up, fan came on & ran but the display never came on and pedal activation does nothing. It was 109 F in the shop yesterday so I thought it might be temp protected. Found nothing in the manual matching but everything says to call the local rep. Any input is appreciated.

The display on those machines is pretty basic so it could be as simple as a poor connection. But given that the machine is only a few months old, I would get it back to the place you bought it and have them deal with it.

That is one of the assumed advantages to buying a machine like this, service is largely available locally, or at least handled through a local entity.

Heck, call that sucker in. That's what I would do.

Or maybe they sold you a Minnesota machine, I know I'd be hard to convince to work at 109 degrees

Do those "Minnesota Machines" also work at -26 degrees?

I think they shut down at -15F.

During very hot weather it’s not uncommon to get voltage drop on the incoming service due to demand. This can cause a amp spike on start up. Most newer control boards have a surface mounted fuse for control power. It’s possible that it popped the control fuse. Still if it’s under warranty get it checked under warranty. Sometimes a pain to jump through hoops, but probably worth it in the long run.

Not sure really, the coldest I've used a plug in machine outside is -20°F
It was my Thermal Arc 161 and a Thermal Dynamics cutmaster plasma.

I've used my voltage sensing wire feeder at -27°F

Appreciate the input. Is this fuse accessible without removing the cover? Nearest authorized shop is in Vegas. Looking at making a day of it.

Most fuses like that will usually be on the control board inside the machine.

I would reach out to a Lincoln service rep on the phone and see what they can do for you first. They might have a simple fix or at least know what the problem is? As others have mentioned sending it in for repairs will most likely be your option since it is several months old. I think Lincoln would fix it under warranty if nothing else. I own one as well and use the &$@? out of it. I also have a Everlast PowerTig 250 EX but actually use the Lincoln more. I hope Lincoln will be willing to help with no hassles.

I put mine in a truck with the dial against the seat and had something similar. Try pulling the dial know out a few times and see what happens. Mine has been working fine since I did that.
