Hi everyone:
Here is the front and back of a weld. I'm concerned about the back side of the weld. Please observe and comment.
Using mild steel 18 gauge with a 9 torch 1/16" electrode.
Thanks,
Dennis

Hello Dennis and welcome to the forum
You're seeing typical burn thru due to the heat input from the weld, what size filler did you use? For 18ga I'd use .035" or .045"

I was using 1/16" rod. I do have some .045". I'll give that a try. By the way, I was using 67 amps. You have addressed my problem area. Thanks
Dennis
p.s.
I have done a similar weld on 11 ga (.122") and here are pictures of both sides. This joint material is 2.5 times the thickness. I used 100 amps with a 3/32" electrode and 1/16" filler rod.
