Continuous gas flow?

I just bought a Lincoln Square Wave 200, but have not yet struck an arc. When I set it up, I turned on the gas, and it flowed continuously, even though there was no arc. Is this right?

Thanks from a beginner.

Hi, The solenoid may be stuck open. it could be faulty or it may be being held open by excessive gas pressure. Check what your regulator is set at.

Solved;

When i first encountered the problem, I had not installed the consumables in the torch. I tried again with everything in place, ready to weld, and it worked as it is supposed to. I guess the solenoid needed little back pressure to work.

I think the tungsten completes the circuit as solenoids are electric.My plasma cutter lets me know when I forget to install a part that it needs. It was just confused. Good luck with your new machine and post up some pics for us. Remember...the learning curve is less steep if you watch Jody's videos and then ask questions here. Plenty of fine welders around here that are more than willing to help out new guys.
