Time for a new portable pipe vise....

So anyone have an alternative that will go up to 6" like the Rigid that has held up well, or do I need to just buy the Rigid?

Hi Rick.
Most pipe guys want the pipe to spin and so only use pipe stands. If it needs to stay put the pipe is clamped to the stand.
I have a rigid yoke to 2" that I use for threading, never thread bigger than that and its mostly used for copper work anyway.
I believe Rigid make a 6" yoke type pipe vise but never seen one, failing that a chain type vise works great (maybe not so good for staino?)
Not a lot of choice out there.
Vic.

Yeah Vic that's my problem, not a lot of choices....Spinning would be nice but I'm use to being all contorted..lol I slide a piece of thing silicone between the chain and my small chain pipe vise on my stainless, but was looking for something better with a stand. I actually just picked up an old yoke vise from a co-worker who was cleaning out his father inlaws house. I was going to glass bead and paint, should look like new. Maybe Ill just fab a stand and save some $$$.

Sounds good to me if it cleans up. The old gear was usually better quality build anyway. My pipe vise was my father's (mhrip). I reckon it must be over 50 years old and I'm not gentle with it. Rigid make good gear, still do.
