TLAR....I'm gonna steal that from youOtto Nobedder wrote:Gap-o-let? I just cut the threads off the pipe section you see (Originally a threaded nipple. I was expecting Rego valves, with FNPT both ends). I then loosely fit these ITT valves (this has a mate exactly opposite) for the standard 1/16" minimum pull-back for a socket weld, used my electrician's level to set the valves at 30*, and a quick tack on top. Squared them up with my TLAR (That Looks About Right), and welded them out.

Be my guest! I also estimate time on task by the WAG method, which is "Wild-Ass Guess". I always look like a hero, because I use Thomas Edison's rule... However long I think it will take, I double it, then add ten percent, and that's what I tell them.exnailpounder wrote:TLAR....I'm gonna steal that from youOtto Nobedder wrote:Gap-o-let? Getting the hang of these exhaust flex sections! 3" 304, backpurge at 7cfh, welded at 90a w/ 1/16"308L. Pictures arranged chronologically from out of the bag to welded, for those of you who have never had the unfortunate pleasure of welding one!

No, these guys are anti pulse lol. I welded 1/2-5/8" at a time, mainly because that outer shell is 0.020-0.030" thick in some places. Monster 16 nozzle at 40-45cfh. I don't remember if I included that bit.exnailpounder wrote:Great job Sam! I know you like bells and whistles...did you pulse these? You got great color.

Everyone, please remember... When you're looking at work that impresses you, work that makes you question your own, you are looking at goals. Objectives. The place you want to be with a few years' more experience.
NONE of these weldporn jockeys came out of the womb doing that, and every one has had their share of epic fails before they got consistent, and a few more before they were good.
NEVER put yourself down because your weld doesn't look like so-and-so's. If you're six months in, and he's been doing it 30 years, you can't expect to be on par.

And also realize..if you do the same thing every day you better damned well get or be good at it or you'll be down the road. It's the guys that have to wear all the hats that impress meOtto Nobedder wrote:Everyone, please remember... I welded something by mistake thinking it's aluminum casting but it worked.... what the hell?
It's too heavy and fairly magnetic. The aluminum stuck....what is it?

Stone knives and bearskins.....and a NEW EVERLAST 164SI !!!
That's my newly shared work welder.
At home I got a Power Tig 185 DV. Nice, but no plasma cutting... Nice tight arc after a second.
