I took my car to a buddy to put on a new oil pan gasket. He missed a piece of the old gasket and busted the hell out of the oil pan. I put almost 2 - 1/8" 4043 rods in that sucker to make sure it wasn't gonna break again.
What the guy didn't tell me was that he busted one of the ears off of my timing cover in the process. It happened when he tried to drop the oil pan because two bolts on the bottom of the timing cover go into the front of the oil pan.
It's not much that I have to work with but I think its gonna work just fine.
Thank God that Jody taught me how to weld else I would be up the creek without a paddle.
I plan to seal the crack with black (oil resistant) rtv silicon.
You can see all of the gray silicone that the guy put on the front of my oil pan to try and hide his mistake (not have to pay for it).
I wouldn't even be mad about it if he hadn't tried to cover the whole thing up. He just didn't wanna have to tear the whole front end apart - like I had to do - in order to let me fix it. Hell, I wasn't mad when he busted the pan but I'm a little bit pissed that he tried to cover this up. He lost a friend on this one. He just put the broken ear back in place and bolted it back down. I had to rip this sucker apart (2000 2.7L dodge intrepid) and buy a new timing cover gasket because it blew out where this bolt couldnt torque the cover down.
I didn't take photos of the oil pan repair.
Tell me what you guys think.

Bolt holes in front side of oil pan. This is why the timing cover is broken. See all that gray silicone?

Gasket side of timing cover. It's nice and flat because I clamped it down good on top of a piece of SS.

Been driving trucks over the road and my welders have been in the pawn shop for months. It cost me $600 to get my tig welder out of pawn to do these repairs. Haven't had anything to weld til just now.

Welcome back. If you have to let the welders go again doesn't mean you need to leave here.
I have more questions than answers
