Are CK torches meant to be used without back cap o-rings?

I bought a CK20 flex torch only for my dynasty and it keeps shredding the o-rings on my back cap. When I'm unthreading my back cap it gets tight from the o-ring rolling out of it's groove, and sometimes the o-ring actually stays stuck in the back of the torch. I'm thinking that the CK is made to seal on the rubber lip in the back of the torch. I've made a few welds without the o-ring on aluminum and I think it's working ok.

I had a CK that liked to shred O-rings because of the tight fit. A thin coat of silicone grease (like spark plug boot grease), just enough to make the o-ring and it's seat in the torch shiny, solved it.

If this doesn't help, contact CK. They should be willing to swap it out for you.
