I have a detached garage that I warm when working in but otherwise stays the ambient temperature. What do you guys do to keep the water from freezing?

Here are a couple of links for you to consider. Whatever you choose, make sure it is low conductivity and will prohibit algae growth. Also, if you ever dilute a mixture, use de-ionized water.

Plain old automotive antifreeze works great for me. 50/50 mix should keep it protected down to 30 below zero farenheit. When was the last time you saw algae growing in your radiator??

Automotive antifreeze has silica in it to plug up leaky areas which may clog tight passages like in the torch head. That is the white stuff you usually see around an area that has been leaking for sometime. The reason you never see algae in your car radiator is because of how hot the coolant gets as it is passing around the cylinders in the engine, but you do see scale build-up . There is also a reason that low-conductivity coolant should be used also. I wouldn't cheap out because of a few dollars and chance it with todays equipment. Not worth it.

Dude, some people run tap water thru their torch and it works fine....some people love to complicate things and others just get it done. I happen to be the latter.

Dude, Don't get them started. Also de-ionsed water is safer from an electrical shock point of view.

It doesn't have anything to do with making things complicated but it does have everything to do with "Doing it right the first time". If you stop and think for a minute instead of "just getting it done", you would see that it actually makes things less complicated in the long run. But most people can't see past their noses.

If spending a few extra dollars for the right stuff for your equipment is complicated, I'd hate to see what would happen when a really complicated decision had to be made.
