Who runs a filter on there watercooler?

Was thinking of adding one to my system. A quick search brought me to this type.

If you do use a filter. What make and model is it?

I've been meaning to piece together a water cooler, and was going to put a fuel filter inline.

water will plug/restrict a fuel filter
need filter designed for water.

don't run one. I have distilled water in mine and it is not in the sunshine. Never thought there was a need for one.

If you are running a Procon Series 1 Pump with an integral strainer, the strainer's job is to keep particles big enough to damage the pump out of it. If the pump used doesn't have a strainer, then all you'd need to do is install a t-strainer which is what a lot of the water coolers use.

As for the Procon Series 1 Pump, it uses a 100 mesh wire screen inside the strainer.

I don't believe the Everlast coolers use a procon pump. IIRC It is a pump made in Italy so I'm not sure if there is filtration built into it or not.

I guess I will just go ahead and add a filter. It sure can't do any harm as long as the correct filter is used.

You'll be stunned by what gathers and moves in a closed system. Even in a 100% distilled water system, the water becomes an aggressive solvent attacking anything not 100% inert. The vinyl or other plastic tubing will sluff off material over time. Heat will accelerate this in the return line.

A 100-mesh screen is good insurance.

Think if I were to put an extra filter on a cooler besides the strainer screen I would put it after the torch but before my resavore. So as to not cavitate the pump if the filter got plugged.

I know the fill cap on my Miller is vented. When the coolant expands and contracts with heating and cooling it will suck in dust.

I bought a filter that looks identical to the one pictured above from McMaster for under $10.
My thinking is that it's cheap insurance against damaging the $200+ torch.

I wish I had on my old Dialarc250. I had it eat two torches and the coil got clogged up. Apparently my pump is plenty healthy as it popped the coil on the cooler when it clogged. Coolant had been changed several times in the machine that I know of.

Clean out your strainer less often—a T-shape body provides greater dirt-holding capacity than Y-strainers. Strainers have a black glass-filled polypropylene head. Screen is Type 304 stainless steel and seal is EPDM. Connections are NPT female.

Strainers with clear bowl allow you to monitor debris without disconnecting your pipeline. Bowl is nylon.
