i recently acquired a used tig torch and regulator setup to use with my miller thunderbolt. the problem is when i go to scratch off the arc is everywhere almost plasma cutter like. Its almost like i have to much amperage but im using a 3/32 tungsten (2%) at about 80 amps on pipe, it doesnt seem to make a difference if i turn it up or down either. I have 25 cfh flowing through the torch(and yes it is actually coming out the nozzle) i have the ground in the + and the electrode in the - i sharpened the tungsten on a new bench grinder wheel , im using straight argon, and i have my work metal cleaned to a shine with the flap wheel . I also checked the line voltage coming out of the machine and that is correct.....im feeling kind of stumped any thoughts on what is wrong with the torch the welding machine or maybe whats wrong with the operator?
